Briefing Introduction of Shandong Provincial Bureau of Geology＆Mineral Resources

Shandong Provincial Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources (SDGM) was founded in 1958. There are 13775 staffs including 3289 various technicians which 1878 persons of them have middle or senior technical professional titles in the Bureau. The Bureau possesses 10201 sets of various equipments and instruments. Under the Bureau there are 21 institutes in Shandong Province, which mainly engage in geo-mineral exploration, hydro geological exploration, environmental geological survey, geotechnical investigation and foundation construction, mining exploitation and development.

In the past 50 years, SDGM has undertaken and completed all the basic geological surveys in Shandong Province. SDGM has discovered and assessed 81 kinds of mineral deposits which include nine super large gold deposits and 167 gold mines. The proven reserve of gold deposits by the Bureau ranks a quarter (25%) of the country. The Bureau also found the first origin diamond deposit with reserves of 3.49million gram, proved iron deposit of more than 2 billion tons, coal deposit of more than 25 billion tons, gypsum of more than 38billion tons, and sapphire of more than 1445 kilogram. Meanwhile more than 180 large or middle scale groundwater fields and 50 geothermal fields have been discovered and assessed, and more than 3000 great geological projects are completed by the Bureau. SDGM created a potential value of 10trillion Yuan (RMB) for the country. Furthermore, the Bureau has been actively making international cooperation and carried out many projects of mineral exploration and construction in the countries of America, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

5 geological institutes under the Bureau were awarded the honor of “Notable Exploits for Ore Searching” by the ministry in the past 50 years. The 6th Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources of the Bureau were awarded the title of “Heroic Geological Institute” by the State Council. The Bureau has won 1 special-grade National Award of Scientific and Technologic Pprogress, and about 500 ministerial or provincial awards. 107 persons have gained many kinds of honor titles of the Nation May 1 Award, the Nation March 8 Red-flag Worker, the Chinese Skilled Award, and the Top-skilled Man.

At the new stage in the century the Bureau will guide the work by the view of scientific development to conduct the Shandong Resources Construction. In order to provide plenty mineral resources and geological service all-round to sustain and promote the development of Shandong Provincial society and economy in good quality and speed, the Bureau will be striving to realize the new breakthroughs in the fields of deep deposit exploration, construction of outward mineral resource basement, mining industry, and building great geological service pattern.
